Ladakh. Bazgo. An ancient citadel.
In the LonelyPlanet guide this place is reffered to as a citadel. The word used is not "fort" or "fortress" which are more common, it’s specifically citadel, synonymous to a stronghold.

And here I can totally agree with the guide’s editors.

Eventhough in some places the stronghold is consisting only of a few lonely walls the total impression from this place is strenth and might.

It can be due to the location high on the mountain.

Among barren, forbidding cliffs.

It can probably be due to huge Maitreya’s statues.

One is located in a separate building and the second which is bigger is inside the gompa opened specifically for visitors by a local monk.

There are only two monks here.

And the monastery itself belongs to Drukpa Kagyu lineage.

Looking now through these photographs I think that the power and might I felt in here can be only my own subjective sensation.

Going past this place in a jeep together with Indian friends I recommended Bazgo to my utmost. But only one quick glance from the valley was enough for them to decide to skip a visit to the citadel. "There is nothing there!" - my fellow travellers said and I understood that I should come back here some other time. There is definately something for me in this place.

I can imagine that meditating in front of the Maitreya statue could be quite impressive.
